According to an Environmental Working Group (EWG) survey, the average women uses 12 personal care products per day, exposing herself to more than 168 chemicals, of which less than 20% have been assessed for safety. So we just don’t know what they do to us when we use them. The big personal care companies say that the doses of these toxic chemicals are small enough to be harmless, but they don’t take into consideration that their products are being used every day, and being combined with other products just as bad as theirs. In reality it is like one giant experiment and we are all just waiting to see what happens....

THE STORY OF NATRALOGIC

When Lauren Lamont became pregnant with her first son, she became very discouraged in trying to find safe and effective skincare products to use during her pregnancy. She noticed that many products available in South Africa for pregnant mothers contained harmful ingredients that are not recommended for use during pregnancy. The ingredients used in drugstore pregnancy products have been associated with miscarriage, bleeding complications, congenital disabilities, disruption in foetal growth, some are known carcinogens which cause cancer and others are known human mutagens which cause genetic defects.

The limited natural products available were mostly just thick oils and balms which made her feel sticky and hot, which isn’t ideal during pregnancy, and did not have sufficient concentration levels of active ingredients to be effective. 

Being involved in the skincare industry, Lauren was fortunate enough to be able to develop her own products to use during her pregnancy, which she made sure contained only the safest and most effective natural ingredients. This inspired Lauren to launch Natralogic, South Africa’s first all-natural skincare range developed specifically for the needs of pregnant women, with the intention of helping other moms feel empowered and at ease over their pregnancy skincare choices.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Lauren holds a 6-year Master's Degree in Pure and Applied Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she graduated with several Certificates of Merit and Deans Commendations. She has also published several articles in peer review Journals including the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, the Journal of Peptide Research and Therapeutics and the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Review. Her Master's thesis, at the time of publication, was considered to a viable cure for cancer. Lauren also holds a 2-year Diploma in Cosmetic Chemistry from the Society of Cosmetic Science South Africa where she graduated top in the country and received the Norman Sanan Award for most innovative product design.

Over and above Lauren’s own brand, she continues to work in the personal care industry as a Research and Development Chemist for some of South Africa's top products and brands including Woolworth, Lil-Lets, Clicks, Sorbet, Oh So Heavenly, Disney, The Tan Lab, and Island Tribe to name a few. Lauren is passionate about her industry and in providing safe and efficient world-class products, be it in local natural and organic brands, or the more traditional synthetic brands. She lives in Durban, KZN, where the head office, laboratory, and manufacturing for Natralogic is based.
